The second day of spring in March at Hochhäderich in the Bregenzerwald was sunny and clear. Spring had finally arrived in the Alps. There was very little snow cover, but what was left on the loipe was really fast! The past week in Voralberg we had strong winds blowing in sands from the Middle East and along the sides of the trails the snow was discolored with a coating of Sahara sand. Hochhäderich is a cute family resort set upon a high moor plain with 8.1 miles of cross country trails that make for an enjoyable ski outing. And after skiing, lunch at the self service restaurant at bottom of the lifts, then afterwards basking in the sun with a cool drink is just what a Sunday afternoon called for.
