What to do on a winter evening night during lockdown? Since we could not visit the faraway vineyards we brought the vintner to us! Franz and I participated in our first Zoom wine tasting Saturday evening. My expectations were not too high so I was surprised at how well it turned out with only some sketchy transmission issues. We joined our Weinhändler Wolf Anwander of Wolfs Weindepot from Upper Austria along with other wine lovers throughout Austria. He had earlier sent out six wines, from a Grüner Veltliner to my favorite, a Schrattenthal 9. Wonderful! The vintner invited for the event was Phillip Zull from the Weingut Zull winery. The vineyards are located in Lower Austria in the wine growing region of the Weinviertel, right near the Czech border. Mr. Zull was so knowledgeable that we learned much about the region and the wines produced there. I look forward to visiting as soon as it is safe to do so again. And what wine does not go well with a favorite pasta salad filled with veggie goodness with Kalamata olives, artichokes, and Parmesan cheese? Just perfect for indulging in an evening of wine. Can’t wait until the next virtual vintner visit!
